Islington Hotel – Hobart

The Islington Hotel is located in South Hobart on the Australian island of Tasmania. Located close to the River Derwent, this boutique hotel is a 20 minute drive from Hobart International Airport. Once a stately home built in 1847 in a Regency style, it’s now an 11 room hotel. Please note: it’s adults only.

Styled to recall its history as a home, the Islington has filled its interior, including its rooms, with curated art and antiques. Incredibly, this includes works by Matisse and Picasso. As you might expect, this gives the Islington an eclectic feel. Some rooms have a great view of Mount Wellington, and others, the cherry garden.

The Islington focuses on using local produce wherever possible, dealing with local farmers and fishermen directly. They also grow food in the hotel’s own garden. The hotel makes its own jams, relishes, muesli, sourdough bread, and pastries daily. Each room comes with fresh fruit and an iPad.

If you’re going out, then there are dining options across Hobart. Wellington Park, with its forest and waterfalls, is less than a 30 minute drive south-west. There’s a wide range of other parks all over Tasmania including Meehan Range Nature Recreation Area that you’ll pass on the way from the airport.
